Something Unique at Concorso Italiano
|
Many of you are aware of the special celebrations and guests we are planning at Concorso Italiano this August. We also want to tell you about some of the cars planned for the Concorso Centerpiece Display. We are in the process of selecting the very special cars to be honored with a featured display. This message is to tell you about just two of such cars.
The first car is the famous BAT 11. Owned by Gary Kaberle of Michigan, the BAT 11 is an exciting new Bertone designed concept car. The BAT 11 has futuristic styling although the basic design theme is over 50 years old. The show car is based on the platform dimensions of the Maserati Gran Turismo, itself a long-wheelbase version of the Alfa 8C. There is so much more to this car, but you’ll have to see it in person.
The second car is the 1955 Ghia Streamline X “Gilda”. This sensational car is owned by Scott Gundfor of California. The Gilda, named after Rita Hayworth’s character in the movie Gilda, is a beautiful experimental car that first appeared at the 1955 Turin Motor Show. It was the result of a relationship between Chrysler designer Virgil Exner, and Ghia designer Luigi Segre. The Gilda is one of the most important designs in the evolution of American cars. It has subsequently been fitted with a single stage gas turbine power plant. So we will have the Gilda by Ghia. If only we could also have the Gilda by Rita.
